Can't install DesktopX PRO 3.89 BETA
Published on November 7, 2009 By Vad_M In Object Desktop

I saw many strange things during using Impulse. But today I've been definitively surprised! It removed my DesktopX 3.5 and then began to show the message: "This program is not compatible with your current operating system." each time when I tried to install DesktopX PRO 3.89 BETA . More than! The previous version of DesktopX has disappeared  from Impulse too! So I can't reinstall it...

What the hell this mean?!!!

I'm using Windows-7 x86. May be I must roll back my system to Vista or even Windows XP to test this program?

P.S. I there any other way to download this update?

Is your registration ok?

Do you have beta software checked under preferences in the blue left side button, Vad?

Just a thought. If you make sure that beta button is checked, and then do a data reset does that straighten things out?

YESYES and YES! Registration - OK. Beta software - CHECKED. Data - RESETED (two times)...

So this is a bug in Impulse. Possible it can't detect my operating system correctly. Or this update is not compatible with Windows-7. In this case I must to ask a question: for which OS it has been done?

Vad...please don't be angry...I'm only asking to help you better, if I can.

I would try uninstalling Impulse, and then reinstalling. Remember to reboot after each step.

I just updated, and my version is 3.50.060 . Not PRO.

You should wait til Monday and speak with support

I'm not angry! I'm  very suprised. Imagine that I waited for this updating more than one year and now it's uncompatible with my OS...

Ok. I'm ready to wait again. But I can't understand why this damned Impulse disturb me from time to time and why I can't download the updates directly from stardock.com. I've paid directly for DesktopX PRO but not for this crap. (Now I'm a bit angry...)

Vad_M go to the update page try clicking on the update button on the lovwer right, if that doesn't work up in the upper right is 'install all updates' button try that one.

I'm on vista so I had no problem updating. I'd also like to know where the previous versions are and if we can go back to them if the beta causes any problems.

THANK YOU PHILLY!

THE PROBLEM IS TOTALLY SOLVED!

YOU'VE SAVED A LOT OF MY NERVES...

That doesn't explain why the other button didn't work.

Glad you could update, Vad.

That doesn't explain why the other button didn't work.

However that illustrate once again the "usability" of Impulse...

The load desktop dialog box contains only the desktops that come with DX. None of my desktops are there. They are in the directory, but not in the dialog box, which means I have to browse to the DX directory to load. This remains true even after I save desktop as....still not there.

Anyone else having this trouble?

Hey, every once in a while even the blind mouse finds the cheese.

Glad I could help Vad_M.

Yeah, all my stuff is gone from the load desktop dialog as well as the import dialog. Plus, where did all the plugins go? Date text, digital clock, analog clock 2, etc. There's only 6 plugins left now.

I would assume anything that might have been removed was because of compatibility problems. If you need any older plugins and don't have them, let me know what you're looking for.

Thanks Mike. I found out on littleboy's post that DX4 uses a different folder location for all the content, so I still have my plugins in the old folder; copied them over and all is right again.

Thank you Mike! But there was no any compatibility problems DesktopX 3.5 with any versions of Windows (from XP to 7). Can you explain me why these problems has been appeared only after installing the 3.89 BETA?

I will not tell you about tons of bugs which contains in this update. I only want to understand who decided that this version of DesktopX is better than previous and ready for testing (or even for using)? And who is the author of this "outstanding product"?

I love DesktopX and use it during a years. But if honestly - this is the first update that I've removed from my PC after 2 hours of testing...
